Can I combine speaker systems?

I have 5.1 speakers, but my system supports 7.1 audio. I was wondering if I'd connect a 2.1 set to the remaining jack, if I could have 7.1 audio. And also, could I have two subs, since the 2.1 has a sub too, if I'd connect one of these to my sub output jack and connect both subs to it? Or wouldn't that work? Would it give more bass with two(I'd assume so)?

You can connect the 2 other speakers to the soundcard for your 7 surrounds, but I'd personally leave off connecting both subs. Just pick the best one you have and use that. I don't think you'd run into any issue connecting both subs, but you may end up with echoy bass unless the subs are matched.

Well, you'll get sound from all your speakers, although depending on the nature of the different sets, the sound may be noticably mismatched between the 5.1 speakers and the 2.1 speakers in terms of quality and/or volume...or it may not. The only way to know is to try it and see.

You don't need to connect the sub output to the second set of speakers. The 2.1 system connected to the rear output jack will have output from the satellite speakers and the sub.

The sub will pull the low frequency sound off the rear output with its internal crossover.

Easiest method would be to connect the 5.1 system normally and then connect the 2.1 system to the last output jack dedicated for the rear output.

Splitters will cause differences in the power output form your soundcard from different jacks. You'd have to adjust levels to compensate.

Even with the rear method, you'd going to have to adjust the volume of the two systems to get good results.
