Hi,
I need to transfer the data from my External USB 2.0 TB HDD ( Seagate ) which is partitioned as MBR to new 3.0 TB Internal HDD ( Western Digital ) which is partitioned as GPT.
I have Acronis True Image software which I regularly use to clone my other hard drives but I have never done this for hard drives that are different sizes as well as different Partition style & different brands.
Is this possible & are there any risks of doing so like HDD Crash, Bad sectors other errors etc ?
Thanks

Do you need to restore an image of a HDD or did you just want to mass copy the files on it?

If you wanted to do the first one, reformat the drive in MBR and then you will be able to image from the MBR external onto it.

To answer your question - yes! Acronis TI has proportional cloning up and down. Never a problem. Since you have TI, the best way is to create bootable media and do it from there. Just select 1 drive as source and the other as target, and use PROPORTIONAL mode.

You want this 3TB disk as a boot disk? If not, ignore the rest of this post.

What operating system? And does the motherboard have BIOS or UEFI firmware? Windows on BIOS hardware only recognizes MBR on boot disks, and on UEFI hardware only recognizes GPT on boot disks. Thus Windows on BIOS hardware is limited to a < 2TB boot disk, unless you're willing to use disk manufacturer proprietary partitioning methods.
