I have a brother HL-1440 and the drum unit is beginning to fade/go bad. In the past i have simply replaced it although the cost of replacement is almost as much as a new printer. A while ago on the forums there was a link for how to clean the drum units for these printers but i wasn't smart enough to save it. Can anyone give me some pointers? Google failed me this time. Thanks

You must be doing a lot of printing to be going through more than one drum in the 1440, I'm supporting over 650 of these units right now for more than 2 years, and we've only had 3 drums go bad. When I met with the guys down at Brother, they mentioned that you can clean the drum carefully using denatured alcohol and a soft cotton swab. In my experience, the drum should last for 30-40k prints.
