Can I claim an "abandon" vechicle?

There is a car across the street from my house that has a sticker saying it's an abandon vechicle and if it's not moved by so and so date they will tow it. I was wondering since the vechicle is "abandon", could I legally claim it as mine? The car has been sitting there for months and hasn't moved. The doors aren't even locked, lots of trash inside, and I even saw a tin can saying gasoline. Anyone know? Also, this is in Delaware.

At this point, it still legally belongs to whoever is on the title. When it is towed it may eventually be sold at auction to pay for fees, but I don't think you can really touch it until then. You could always contact the DMV and find out exactly where they stand :)

I don't think I could get the owner via a VIN#, I'm about 80% that this car was originally stolen... No pics(no digi camera on hand), it's a pretty crappy looking car. It's an old Chevrolet Corsica, greyish color.

If it is a Corsica then why on earth would you want it? It will just end up costing you a lot of money...

There IS a procedure for claiming them, it's a rather long one though that involves waiting at least eight weeks and notifying the owner.

Stolen cars are impounded. They wouldn't have left it there if it was a stolen car.

It will get towed by the towing company that has the contract for that street, then the company that tows it will keep it in their lot until (most states) 30-60 days. After that, they will apply to the state for an abandoned vehicle title. once they have that, they will do whatever they need to with it.

I don't really want the Corsica, the inside is probably doused with gasoline. There is another car that I could use and it's on my side of the street so it doesn't have any tickets(the other side of the street is 2 hour parking...), hasn't been sitting there as long as the corisca, but I'm sure no one will be touching it soon. I can't recall what it is right now, but will go outside and check later. I sorta have a lot, think I could push the car into my lot and file for an abandon title? lol Anyone know anything about hotwiring the cars...
