Can I change SCSI HD from 1 system to another and not loose the programs/files??

I just bought a 3.06 system with a EIDE HD.

I have been using a 1.7 system with a SCSI HD.

I want to know if I can switch the SCSI HD from the 1.7 system to the 3.06 and not loose all the info that is on the SCSI HD????????

Both systems are Dell.

Is this possible.....
😕

In Theory yes,

but in practice, more information is needed to make that recommendation.

If you mean to boot from the SCSI drive, you have to take into account how
that will effect what the OS sees when it comes up on new hardware.

If you are just going to attach the drive as a secondary drive on the new system,
then you should be able to do that without too much trouble.

Both systems are w2000 service pack3.
I am trying to take my SCSI and place it in the new box and boot from it.
I am sure the bios needs to to changed from EIDE to SCSI for boot.
I am afraid to do this because I don't want to loose all my files on the first bootup, have you heard of that happening before?

Shouldn't be a problem. I have switched numerous Motherboards while using the same SCSI Boot drive Using Win2K and later WinXP without having to reinstall/ repair the OS. The SCSI Controller Drivers are already installed in your OS so your SCSI Boot Drive will be detected.
