can I change pc-133 sdram to rdram??

currently have a dell dimension 4300, pentium 4 1.8 gig. but it is using an sdram. Do I have to change the mobo in order to be able to use rdram??

Yes you will have to get a new mobo since sdram and rdram are two totally different memory standards.

You can NOT change PC-133 SD-RAM to RD-RAM.


You CAN change the motherboard and get new memory.

Don't forget to be careful and verify the form factor before you go out and buy the first/best/cheapest RDRAM mobo. Dell may (or may not) use proprietary components.

For the P4, yes it is. The intel P4 design really likes memory bandwidth, which standard PC133 SDRAM just does not have. You can also go with a high-performance DDR solution; check out the other forums here on AT (Motherboards, CPUs, General Hardware), and read through the main site, as there's a lot of excellent info out there.

Well, if you're looking at 2gb of RDRAM, half your system cost will be going towards the memory at a cost of around $800-$1000. Unless you're running a server, why in the world would you want/need that amount of memory.........unless it's dirt cheap. Even putting in 2gb of DDR will run you about $400-$600 for the cheap stuff.

New case need for new motherboard= $60
2gb of RDRAM in a $500 computer= $1000
