Can I change my computer name without asking the administrator?

The computers in our company are connected and I don't like the name they assigned to my computer. Can I change the name of my computer without asking the administrator to do it? Will it affect other networks settings? Thanks.

Leave it as is. Your administrator won't want you fooling with the name as he/she might require the name to do certain administrative tasks on your computer.

If it's really bugging you, ask the admin if you can change it. But they tend to be pretty touchy about naming conventions and will probably tell you to just leave it as is, or give you an equivalently "bad" name.
