I know people in Alaska do it all the time. Beats me whether it is legal or not.

You can do whatever the fuck you want in a private plane. No TSA. There are still FAA rules though.

Yes. I have a client with a jet and he and his friends regularly carry weapons. At most private jet airports you just walk on the plane and there is no security. The only exception I have run into was at Logan, where the civil aviation terminal shares tarmac with the main airport. There, we had to go through security and my client had to document that he was legally entitled to carry the gun. I imagine this related to Massachusetts law rather than any federal requirement, though.

No one really cares on private jets. As mentioned above, you typically just drive up, and walk out and get on the plane and leave with no hassle.

Private jets are more like personal cars (you obey the rules of the air, register your flight plan, etc, but everything else you pretty much do what you want), and commercial airlines are like busses (tons of extra rules on what you can and can't do, waiting in line, etc)

Short answer - it's up to the PIC of the plane.

But there's a lot more to it than that... like where you're going, is it a handgun, rifle, or shotgun? If you're landing in the bush somewhere then sure. If you're going to try to walk thru a secured airport terminal - not gonna happen. If you're trying to take your handgun to the Bahamas I believe that's illegal unless you want them to secure it for you at the airport, but long guns are OK if you declare them upon arrival. List goes on and on. It's up to you to know the gun laws of whatever state/country you're visiting - but as a responsible gun owner you already knew all this right? :p

He didn't ask if he could take it to specific locations. The question was just is it ok to have on the plane, which it is ;)

Right, but most people fly to travel long distances.. not just go to walmart and back home. :)

Being so close to Canada and a few states where gun control laws are much different than Michigan it's not a crazy thing to point out. I'm sure his CCW isn't valid in Canada or NY for instance.

No problem transporting them across state lines?

Not only that but make sure you know the gun laws for where you're going and the lands in between. Wouldn't want to do an emergency landing and then be arrested for being armed.

To a state I can legally carry from a state I can legally carry.

Problem might come from the tarmac. I know you need a special pass to get to the plane. ..

Your question should be "Can I carry a gun on a private plane at this [AIRPORT]?"

Now that said, unless you are passing through security...

My company's. We have a few.

This would be a Cirrus SR22

If your flying out of GR you do not go into the terminal. And the FBO has much different rules than the terminal. All the airports i have ever gone in and out of i have never had to get a special pass of any type to goto the plane. And that includes flying the single engine 6 seater into some big airports.
