I wanna deposit a chunk of change but don't have a local branch (I use USAA). Can I buy a post office money order and just make it out to myself and deposit it?

Yeah. That's what I did to cash a savings bond to USAA a few weeks ago. Needed it quickly, you can scan-deposit money orders on USAA.com just like checks.

Another option is to open a checking account at a local bank or credit union and link it on USAA. Then you can use that branch for making cash deposits and then transfer it electronically to USAA.

You'll need to keep maybe $20 or so in there though. Juts don't get a savings because many banks require $300 deposit otherwise they charge you $3/mo.

Yeah, thats my eventual goal. Don't have time to open an account today and not a big fan of having lots of cash at my apartment.

Oh snap that's a good idea, I'm glad I read this. Stupid BoA takes way too long to transfer money to my USAA account.
