Do you think it's possible to overburn an 80 minute CD-R (Memorex) by 1 minute and 8 seconds? I thought I've heard that you can burn a little bit more than 80 (or 74) minutes on to a CD but I wasn't sure. Thanks.

I was using Easy CD Creator and it won't even allow me to burn one with 80:01

Yep, overburn.

Though it depends on much more data it adds.

I've gotten away with 10MB over the 700MB limit before, never tried anything higher.

No, you'll cause the universe to implode if you try.

Just give it a shot. Some CD-writing software will let you overburn a bit, but not a whole lot. Worst that can happen is ending up with a new 10 cent coaster.

Overburning, works on any Overburn? enabled drive. Though it can only be read from Overburn? drives.

It depends mainly on the writer, and the media.

Example: I have an older Lite-On that overburns everything I've ever wanted it to. I also have some media thats designated at 90/99 minute media. I have burned more then 90 minutes onto a disc with this combination, with a maximum around 95 - but could maybe do more. Unfortunetely 90/99 minute discs are near impossible to find anymore, so I use the last 50 stack I have sparringly. I still have a good 25+ left.

I've always been fearful of that Nero message that says it can damage your burner if it's not supported, etc. I never went ahead with overburn.
