Can I bring my HD set top box and TV to my parents' place?

Some shows (like Conan O'Brien) are broadcast in HD even to non-HD channels - that is, where I live regular NBC is channel 5, but when Conan comes on it shows up in letterboxed HD mode. Will the SuperBowl be like that?

EDIT: Looks like I answered my own question below, per the Comcast program guide. So if I bring my stuff over to my parents', will we be able to tune Channel 2's HD okay?

EDIT: Comcast program guide also says this pre-show documentary stuff is HD on ch. 2, and it sure ain't :|

EDIT: Got off the phone with Comcast, they say ch.2 not being HD despite the Comcast program guide saying so is a network issue. So I also left a voicemail on CBS's reception trouble hotline.

Probably not. CBS generally doesn't do that (yet).

Looking forward to it, though. CBS doesn't have the most NFL games, but IMO their HDTV presentation is tops.

Definitely, the picture looks much better than say, Fox.

What sort of set top box do you have? You should be able to pull in the OTA HD signal if they can get it.

A Comcast/Motorola 6200/2005. Don't think it has an antenna, but I do have the indoor antenna from my ATI HDTV Wonder. Shoot, I'll try that out right now.

EDIT: Damn thing won't tune an antenna signal.

IIRC, the Super Bowl was being transmitted in HD since 2004. I have 5 hour caps of XXXIX and XL in my HDDs. About 30GB of HDD space for each.

If they have Comcast cable, you should be able to take your set top box over there and use it with your TV. I don't think the box is tied in any way to your address.

Hmmm, but they don't have HD service, so it's a waste if the ch. 2 broadcast isn't HD.

If your TV has a QAM tuner you could just plug it in to the cable outlet and be good to go.

HD channels are in a separate tier. I have 2 CBS channels. CH2 is standard resolution (720x480) and CH 189 in HD resolution (1900x1080i).

This guide, HDTV Galaxy, shows it being 1080i x DD5.1.

In order to pickup free OTA (antenna) signals the TV needs to have an HD tuner.

I know channel 2 is not HD. Go back and read the first question in my OP.

My question now is, why is the ch.2 broadcast not in HD (the way some shows, e.g. Conan, can be on non-HD channels), despite the Comcast program guide saying it is.

Bummer :( I really don't feel like carting my HTPC over there.

Um....yeah, with comcast cable, the box is very much tied to your address. They register the box's serial and mac address with their computers.
