She has no insurance and needed to have an emergency operation. She put my name down as the emergency contact. The bill is $30k so now she is applying for financial help with the hospital and the gov't.

I figured since we are not married, I will not be held responsible. However I was doing some research online and hospitals have came after the b/f for bill D:. Does this sound right? In case she doesn't qualify for financial help, I don't want to be held responsible.

Here is an example, she actually went to this same hospital

You have no legal ties to her and have not signed for any responsibility for the bill, so I'd say no.

The hospital can try and collect from anyone they want. Are you legally responsible for her debts? ANS: No. I've been seeing many couples where one would be a large debtor and the other would have all the money and real estate with no intent to try and balance things.

So those couples can never get married otherwise the one with money will have to start paying the medical debts?

she can just offer to donate your balls to science for compensation.

I'm sure you'll agree.

Oh, wait, I mean: too obvious.
