Can I add parts to my laptop?

First of all. I am really noob when it comes to PC/Laptop.

Anyway, I bought myself http://www.sony.co.uk/product/vaio-e-series/tab/overview

I was wondering can I add parts to it? For example, can I add more memory? It has 4GB of memory and I would like to add another 4GB so a total of 8GB (For example)
or maybe add a better graphics card? Can you do that? If yes is it easy as building a PC? Any good recommended tutorials? I have a gaming PC myself, but my laptop is for University work and whatnot.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. 😉

Thank you! ^_^

You should be able to add more meory. You probably cannot add a graphics card - most lappies have that function soldered to the mainboard.

Specific answers are not easy unless the specific model number is cited. You should go to the Sony support site and download the User Guide for that specific laptop.

It would probably be useful if this question were posed in the laptop forum, ie., SF, Notebooks, etc.

I wouldn't even bother with the ram. Odds are it has a pair of 2 gig sticks so you can't just add ram without removing the ram that is already in it. 4GB for Vista/7/8 is perfect for the average user and you will be hard pressed to notice a difference.

Easiest items to swap on a laptop are memory and hard drive.

Post up the specific model # of the laptop so we can help more.

Here's CPUZ http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z/versions-history.html

download the .zip file, unpack it, run the .exe.

Open the SPD tab and the memory tab for memory config information.
Hello
VAL20bq.png

and my model number is SVE151J13M

Thank you 🙂

Thanks for the model

Speccy isn't what we need, CPUZ will tell you what DIMM's you have and how many slots you have.

If you have 1x4GB, then dropping in another 4GB will probably be easy...gotta see the manual though

If you have 2x2GB RAM, you would have to buy 2x4GB to upgrade. I tend to agree with Matt on this....4GB is more than enough for most users.

If I can add memory do you know any good tutorials? and can you reccomend me some good parts to upgrade if I can upgrade. 🙂

Also, I just ran Diablo 3 and hell it's laggy! Every 3 seconds or so my game stutters etc 🙁
I though I can play Diablo 3 with the lowest settings with my current specs?

EDIT - I lost my manual already lmao -_-

That's a bit better 🙂

There's 1x4GB Samsung PC3 - 12800 @ 800Mhz, 11-11-11-28, model M471B5273DH0-YK0

Can you confirm the laptop model #? I'm not having too much luck finding that particular model.

I usually shot at Crucial for RAM. Your model doesn't come up on their memory finder either.

Check out here:

What's your budget?

Diablo 3 huh, on an Intel HD 4000? Dunno...never tried.

'There's 1x4GB Samsung PC3 - 12800 @ 800Mhz, 11-11-11-28, model M471B5273DH0-YK0' I have no idea what that means or what I should get, like I said I'm a NOOB when it comes to computer related stuff 😀

Is it this one? SVE1513P1EW
If not then I have no clue where to find it 🙁
It's a Sony VAIO btw.

I don't have a budget really. I take the one that is decent CHEAP and reliable I guess. Oh and do I buy the 4GB one? Can you recommend me one? 🙂
I'm living in the UK so newegg probably wont be a good idea. ;(

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/sve1513p1ew

looks like SVE1513P1EW is the right one.

Here's the manuals:

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/SVE1513P1EW/manuals

Ok, so in the zip...there's two index.html's, each has support doc's. In the first index.html, there's an "Other Operations" section, choose that....then choose memory module. That's the instructions. If you look at step 3, it basically tells you to flip the laptop over and look for the memory module access door. Never attempt this with the laptop powered on, just to be safe. And whenever you are going to replace hardware like this you always shutdown the laptop, and remove the batter.

So, from that page, the dimm I would recommend is this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820239696

It's Kingston, CAS 11, 1.35V...not bad.

I'm partial to Crucial, www.crucial.com/uk/

Use the memory finder tool to choose your make and model. filter out results to only have memory, then click show all compatible memory.

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/list...13P1EW&Cat=RAM

I would get a 4GB from the crucial site...I've always had good luck with them. On the supported list, and a reputable brand. If you were so inclined... 🙂

This won't solve your D3 problems though...but who knows...throw in another DIMM and a SSD for the OS....and you may be in business. your mileage may vary.

edit: FYI, the specs for this model says 8GB Max.

edit 2: The Hard Drive is a 750GB 5400 rpm drive. That's slowing you down...way down.

Wow, most lappy tops today come with both slots filled. I would probably go with the upgrade since it will run the memory in dual channel as well.

Ahh thank you so much! 🙂
Really appreciated for helping me find the information I wanted!!! 😀

Also 'The Hard Drive is a 750GB 5400 rpm drive' so that is causing diablo 3 to stutter etc? so I can't really upgrade anything to improve Diablo? I am getting the 4GB memory for sure though.

You can upgrade the RAM (which you're doing), and the hard drive. You cannot upgrade VGA in laptops (it's very rare that's possible). The CPU is solid.

With 8GB RAM, and a Solid State Drive, you may get D3 to work enough to play.

I have a Samsung 840 pro 128GB, very fast.

Check out the Memory and Storage forum for more info

Post a new thread on how to image from the 750 to the new drive (otherwise a reinstall of the OS onto the SSD would be needed)
