Can I add a Panaflo L1A to my Englight PSU?

I've got an Enlight PSU. I don't the model, but it's whatever that came with my case. I think it's 300-350w and it's powering an AMD XP setup right now. I want to remove the fan and replace it with a Panaflo L1A to reduce some of the sound. The PSU isn't very loud, but I'm kind of on a "make my system as quiet as possible" kick right now. Anyway, is this possible and is it a wise thing to do?

krackato, yes, it is possible, just make sure when you open up your PS, avoid the capacitors[sp?] as they still carry a charge unplugged and make sure you wire the Panaflo correctly [label facing out]. Take you time and double check everything before powering up your rig and you'll be fine. If you have any further questions feel free to PM me :)

I replaced the fans in all four of my power supplies with L1a's as well as the regular case fans. It made a bid difference. On some I had to cut the old fan wires and used wirenuts to attach the new fan's wires to the remaining wire on the power supply, then wrapped the wires and nuts with electrical tape. All works well.

Good luck,

You're going to have to run the power cable for the fan out of the PSU...have any plans for that?

Or are the L1A's PSU fans, and have the mini-3 pin power plug?

Well, I've never attempted a mod on a PSU, so as much info I can read before hand will be helpful. If anyone wants, I can upload a few photos to a website to show the process when I figure it all out and perform the mod. Hopefully it won't be that difficult.

Once you start soldering, you never go back :) I used to just use crimp caps, wire nuts and the like.........but honestly, I feel much safer knowing the 2 bare wire ends were soldered together, and covered in heat shring tubing, as opposed to a crimp that might fall off or whatever. So just saying, if you have a soldering iron, and the means to do it, solder those suckers in!!! :D

Alright, well here's an update. Just finished the mod. Piece of cake. Didn't even bother soldering or using electrical tape. Just dragged the wire out of the PSU case and attatched it to the motherboard CPU Fan port, since my CPU fan uses a standard connector.

Gotta say though, I can't really tell much of a difference. I've got 3 fans in the case. 1 21dba Panaflo in the PSU, 1 12dba Papst on the CPU, and a 3rd cooling my Geforce 2 GTS. At this point, I don't know where the extra noise is coming from. Maybe I'll just get one of those no fan iMac's and call it a day. Of course, there is always the H20 route...

Just wanted to add, I added an L1A to my Enermax Whisper PSU just a few days ago, and I figured out one reason why its so quiet :) Its because where the 92mm fan plugs into the PSU itself, its only giving it 6.6v :p I didnt realize this at first, and managed to mod a plug to stick into the second connector, and I wondered why my L1A was hardly moving any air. I busted out the DMM and 6.6v was all the fan was getting. Afraid of my PSU getting too warm, I just lengthened the wires and ran it outside the PSU for a nice healthy 12.5v :)

Either way, pretty fun, real easy, much quieter :)
