Can I add a 2nd wifi router, just to create a "Guest" account?

I have a Linksys wifi router that does not allow guest accounts. It's from T-mobile with their @home VOIP service, so I can't replace it. (because that scheme is now defunct, and I've been grand-fathered in, and I don't want to give up on their service as it's so cheap).

I want a guest account to give to casual visitors to surf the internet and keep my main network safer. I heard that I could get a second wifi router, connect it to my existing network with a different SSID and allow guests to access that SSID. All this, maybe using DD-WRT?

I see a bunch of Linksys WRT54GL for $10 on craigslist that I want to use for this.

Has anybody done this, or is this not do-able?

You can do it without DD-WRT. It will be fine. You need to set the WRT54GL to a different subnet (ie. 192.168.2.1) to keep it totally seperate from your network.

Oh - okay!

Will I connect the new router to the old one (wired)? Or will it get on the wireless of the older one?

You'll need DD-WRT to connect a WRT54GL to another router wirelessly. Browse the forum. It's been discussed many times. If you run a cable, you can use the stock BIOS.

Just make sure you use different channels on each AP. I would do 1 and 11 if there are not a lot of other AP's in the area on those channels.
