Can Hypnosis really do miracles? Do you guys not think this is all too weird...

I know Hypnosis is real and it works in some aspects of controling the mind, but I don't know about the physchological aspects. Many hypnotists today claim they can cure depression, anxiety, fears, and such. Is this possible or is it just BS? A famous hypnotist came to our school once and actually performed on one of my friends. He made him do some funny things like act like a chicken and such. Afterwards my friend said that he wasn't faking it and that he had no control over his body! He said he felt like a puppet, and that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't resist control. Another friend of mine went to a specialist who hypnotized him to get a look at his past lives. He said it was a weird out of body experience and that it was completely spooky. He didn't get to see everything since he has this problem of needing complete self-control. Losing this control when in hypnosis quickly made him slip out of it before he could see it all. I know this sounds real far fetched, and I too found it hard to believe, but my friend isn't the kind to joke about a thing like this. Not only that, the same thing was done to his mother and she confirmed that it isn't BS.

Anyways this same friend of mine was deemed a genius (even though his grades never reflected it) when he was taken to a specialist as a child and this guy is like the freakin dali llama... he never read a lot yet he knows SO much. He explained morality and life perfectly to me in a way that made more sense then any religion has taught me. He also see's flashes of the future, can heal people, is responsive to the earth's "energies" (reacts to chakras & well just about everything I guess) among others special talents... He made me realize there is a different spiritual world out there that us "normal" people are not aware of. Okay I'm sure a lot of you are saying, "yea, sure....." by now... Heck, I know that's what I would say if I read something like this. I just know that I've been around this guy long enough to know that his special abilities are genuine. In any case, back to the subject of hypnosis, do you guys believe it can really do miracles? I wish I could just get hypnotized like in Office Space and turn into a cool, nonchalant, happy-go-lucky guy... with all the stress lately, I think this is just what I need. What do you guys think?

That was a very interesting read, actually. Too bad there isn't much response to it. :)

The concept of hypnosis is fascinating to me. I won't judge what you've said, though.

I think a lot of hypnosis is based on belief. First of all, the person has to really want to be hypnotized. Once the person decides they want it, they are essentially turning their brains over to the hypnotist to mould (sp?) as they chose. It is a suggestive state. If the hypnotist says "you are a chicken" the person's brain seizes this suggestion and accepts it as truth/fact, one wholly based on belief. Hence, they begin to act like a chicken.

Where do you go to see a professional hypnotist?

I've got a problem with my self confidence, and if hypnotists can do what they say they can, maybe they can help me too.

We went over hypnosis in my Abnormal Psychology class. It is true that some people are more easily hypnotised than others... The professor did a demonstration that convinced me that I had better steer clear of professional hypnotists because I am highly open to suggestion! I have learned to keep my distance from certain types because I have been run over by stronger personalities in the past.

We also went over a case of a man with multiple personality disorder. The amazing thing is that one of his personalities was diabetic... so his body actually changed along with his personality! This was well documented, BTW. I'm not going to do a search now, but the facts are out there.

The mind-body connection is a strong one but it is something that we do not undertand very well. That is why I refuse to take a strong position on the validity or lack of validity concerning these matters...

We just don't have all the answers yet.

Stefan: you can check out this site. Just scroll down to services and check out the hypnotist search. Luckily I happen to have one located about 10 minutes away. I'm sure it's expensive though so I don't want to shell out the big bucks unless I know I can get results! I've been talking to a physchologist the past few months and I feel as if it has got me nowhere. It has now goten to the point at which I find myself being asked the same questions over and over each session as I am not gaining ground on the problem(s)... that is why I am looking into hypnosis/hypnotherapy. What's the difference between hypnotherapy and hynosis anyways?

BTW here is a quote from the above link:

"Hypnotherapy can help you end anxiety, lower pain, banish panic, control weight, improve relationships and achieve your goals on and off the job."

Just got back from an evaluation from the hypnotist... The guy was DAMN convincing, very intelligent, and great talker. He explained hypnosis to me, not so much the procedure, but how it works and what it does. He said something about how we all use hypnosis everyday and how that is how our mind functions. I could tell he wasn't the type to just try and convince me to give them my money or anything (like that like the phsyc I've been seeing :p). The place is always booked so my money doesn't mean a thing to him anyways and he in fact recommended that with my budget I should just do one session and learn something called the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)... he says this is something that will help me with a lot of sh*t, almost any problem one could think of. I think he made reference to accupuncture and on 4-5 special points on your body that releases the negativity and stress... this is part of what EFT is about. He says that once I learn It I can perform it on myself whenever I want, however much I want... and this will somehow help me deal with certain problems and such. I know this doesn't have to do with hynosis, but perhaps this may help someone. I myself can't afford hypnotherapy, so EFT is the route I'm going. He did say hypnosis would help a lot, but that EFT is a effective enough on it's own and is a good starting point. He also recommends that I do some reading on self-hypnosis and neuro linguistic programming so that I can help myself further. Anyways I'll keep you guys updated... Now I just have to gather $225 for the EFT session

Isla: Yes, I've read about that too. Multiple personalities is a very strange thing.. They can have a disease as one personality, and it can disappear as another, and yet have a diffrent disease as another.

Makes perfect sense to me.. heh

Anyone into hynosis? Would any of you be able to direct me to any links or books to learn a little more about this stuff, and I guess the procedure. A Clerk at the hypnosis place I went to, about 23 years old, told me about how he did a lot of reading on hypnosis when he was in high school and how doing EFT and self-hypnosis helped him so much... he said he overcame his anxiety, problem of self-confidence and talking to girls among a lot of other stuff like depression... I think hearing him speak was proof of hypnosis' worth! He seemed to be very smooth and well-composed.

Personally I think the whole idea of hipnosis is pretty kewl ... as well as the people who "know things" that others don't . some people call it instinct, some gut reaction, others intuition. I don't know what to call it ... but I have had feelings in the past that ended up saving my life. Was in a car one time and having trouble putting the seatbelt on, decided I was just not going to wear it, we weren't going that far after all. I then had this memory of my mother and I discussing how seatbelts had saved our lives so many times. I thought ... for my mom I'm gonna get this seatbelt to work... and I did. 5 minutes later my friend's vehicle was hit by a speeding camero and the EMT said had I not been wearing my seatbelt I would have been dead. I also have weird instincts about couples. I knew before I ever met my best friend's now husband that she was going to end up with him (even made 10 bucks of betting her about it), I also picked out my cousin's now husband, even going so far as to tell her to break up with the guy she was dating at the time so that she would be free to date him. Not to mention the fact that I knew the first night E_mc_2 and met in person that I was going to marry him. I don't know how I know this kind of stuff . call it whatever you will . I just think its interesting ...
