Can Hard Drives be Mounted Vertically

My new Lian case only has a place for vertical hard drive installations.

I would presume this is OK since I have seen many Dell desktop cases laid flat or standing on end.

A BIG YES! 🙂

I have a Lian Li and have 3 drives in the lower removable drive bay all set vertical.
The Seagate is the quietest btw
You will love that Lian...especially when you upgrade things.

Just reading there little manual in detail and they sent along a thing that allows the drives to be rotated and mounted horizontally, so I think I will do that. I've got a 4 year old 40gb Hitachi that came out of the old machine that has the operating system on it. I will probably boot up with it, then format it and start all over again. Also adding a 500 gb drive.

My Lian is the 60PlusII. It is gorgeous and a work of art. Nothing at Fry's or MicroCenter has anything this beautiful or well made. I paid, shipping and all, $132. It is worth every penny and not sure how they even make something of this quality for that price.

Welcome to the Lian-Li club. I have an original PC-60 USB with no upper or side exhaust. It's the essense of simplicity and has been a joy to own.

It's so nice to work with inside and has an overal timeless quality to it.

Yes, either verticle or horizontal. All the drives are designed to be mounted either parallel or perpendicular to a fixed enclosure.

Ok think about this for a second:

If the case only has vertical mounts, isn't it implied that hard drives work in that orientation?

If the best computer case builder in the market makes it with vertical slots... then I'm betting it's ok...

Dell's been mounting drives vertically and sideways for years, and a lot of SFF cases require it. Don't worry about it.

Echo Fraggable about Dell. Several SFF cases use vertical - and many external drives are now in cases with vertical capability.
