How long have we been duped? Recent events make trust a rare commodity. The bond traders in the 80s, Enron, and now the mortgage fiasco. This nation is so highly leveraged financially that it has likewise led to carelessness. Can't people like Sir Dystic, Mitnick, etc. etc. etc. help us? Isn't the spirit of Cap'n Crunch around?

EDIT: This is a poll that does not appear until you login.

Wait, what? Are you just rambling?

The Topic title "Can hackers restore or trust?" -- Trust in what their hacking abilities?

Poll title "What should hackers do" -- Umm, stop hacking? options like "Take the money and property of those and give it to charity" seem to have little to do with the topic title. Who are "those" that the hackers are apparently taking money from.

Your first question "How long have we been duped?" -- Duped in what? trade? business? stock? Perhaps you are referring to spam emails or some educational misleadings at an early age.

My vote goes to moving this to OT. As it stands, I really don't understand what the OP was trying to get across, I can see he has lots of Ideas floating through his mind, but they aren't effectively conveyed by this post in a manner that allows me to discuss anything relevant.

If I am understanding him correctly, he wants some discussion on hacking being moral? (I think) which IMO doesn't qualify as HT as it is more philosophical. Rather, a question about how hacking occurs, the latest security vulnerabilities in RSA, ect would be HT in my book.

This is truth, most hackers i know are doing it for the lulz, not for money, or any righteous crap.
