Can firmware change based on the Sim Card installed when Factory reset?

I have an Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 i527m - Originally a Rogers phone. I paid to have it unlocked by Cellunlocker. ($7.99). Got the code in a couple hours and worked perfect.

Now I am using the phone with Virgin Mobile Canada (Bell Mobility)

This morning I decided to do a Factory Reset and to my surprise (Positive surprise) the 1-2 Rogers Apps that were on it are now Virgin/Bell Apps.

Can Firmware change like this with a Factory reset on an unlocked phone because I'm using a different Sim now? I'm assuming this happened because the phone was unlocked, is offered by Bell, and the Sim was installed when I did the Factory Reset? I've never seen this before.

This is a good thing - The Bell/Virgin app is actually useful and I install it normally anyways.

Eventually I'll go AOSP if a good rom ever comes along.

Firmware, no, but the OS can have customizations based on which SIM card is inserted, on a Samsung, these are called CSCs -- they reside in /system/csc folder
