can dogs withstand cold?

so tomorrow is probably going to be the first 'cold' day where I live. High will be 33(no snow or rain, maybe windy).

I'm debating whether or not to leave my dog in my house, or let him outside for the day. I built a dog house for him. It's just a basic dog house that is used to block the wind, so it's nothing expensive that can insulate heat or whatever.

Do dogs usually do well in this temperature for a whole day?

Googling online only says to avoid 'extreme' temperature. What is extreme?

I have a short haired wiener dog that lives outside. Here it gets down in the teens and twenty and he's fine. The dog house is just a simple plastic job from walmart.

For what it's worth, I have a black lab who does just fine in weather much colder than that; in fact, she prefers cold. Whenever it is hot, she will not go outside and when it is cold, we can't get her to come in.

... also, this is FS/T.

my dad used to raise beagles and he had them for years. they were always outside 24/7/365 and never had a problem. just make sure they have a dog house or something to go in and put some straw or something in for them for some insulation.

high of 33. thats not cold. thats nice.
personally, i wouldn't leave your dog out.
work dogs like huskys, malamutes, and samoyeds have a dual coat of fur, a thick undercoat that holds in heat and outer fur. your dog, not so lucky.
think about if you'd like to be out all day, and then think about him.

I would think anything below 33 would be cold for a short haired dog, especially a dachshund who's low to the ground. Why have such a small dog living outside? My doxie loves cuddling up under the blanket on my bed. Him and one of my other dogs want their winter coats if it's below 30.

A corgi has a pretty dense coat so he should be fine but he'd probably prefer to be inside.

A fenced in yard and doggie door ftw.

Well, my sister has the exact same dog and apparently it loves swimming in the river even when its those temperatures outside. That said, dogs are retarded, so they might not really think about that sort of stuff. But, I personally wouldn't leave a god out in that cold for too long.

Domesticated pets are sissies. I thought you knew that taking them to the vet every month for all the little things.

Heh, my Black Lab would go outside and play for hours in the snow if the windchill was below -10F. He was one crazymotherfucker.

I miss the big guy.

Stick some hay in the dog house and see how he likes it? 33 is not that cold, especially for a dog. If it provides shelter and protection from the wind it shouldn't be bad.

I have a Corgi and it's around 32 degrees outside. She's an indoor dog and does not like going outside in this weather. That being said I don't think a corgi would die if there was a dog house but man...it would probably suck to be a dog stuck outside.
