yeah, I really don't think it'd be that much different from a normal staircase with most dogs. I think that in general, the bigger the dog, the more trouble they have with stairs. Or more specifically, the more trouble they have going *down* the stairs. Imagine if you *had* to walk down the stairs two at a time.... it'd be pretty scary. If the dog is small enough that it can only straddle two stairs at a time, they probably won't have a problem with it. It depends somewhat on certain paramaters, such as how wide the steps are, and whether the steps are 'open' flying in the air or 'closed' like they have a wall around one side of them. We used to live in a place with a very narrow, 'floating' spiral staircase, and our dog (miniature dachsund) really didn't like to use it. I don't think he would have had a problem if the rails were more solid, at least on his level.
It's pretty funny watching him go down even a normal, straight staircase.... he has to take it basically one step at a time, front legs down, then back legs down, sort of hopping each half of his body down each step, with his body oriented so that he can stand on each step (longwise). Unless he gets in a hurry, in which case, he does both simultaneously, and sometimes he loses it and falls toward the bottom of the staircase... it's kind of funny. Going *up* the stairs isn't a problem at all, but going down can be an adventure
