Can dial into my ISP but cant browse the net...

Using a Sony laptop, I can dial into my ISP but I can't browse the internet at all.....

I have went through all the settings in Windows network and IE. My dial up is configured the same way as my Ethernet at work, minus the proxy servers etc that we require at work. Any ideas why I can connect to my ISP but not ping anything or get on the web at all?

I am using a computer running WinXP and IE.

First off, what is your ISP?

Secondly, if you say you can't ping anything, does it resolve? Like, when you ping www.yahoo.com does it say "host not found" or "ping timed out" and list an IP address?

If you use the laptop at work, you may want to try to release your current IP Address and request a new one.

To do that, go to the command prompt & type:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Also, you may want to check your firewall if you have one.

sephiroth had a good suggestion, but are you trying to use manual IP addresses at home, or is windows trying to find them automatically? You need to make sure that Windows is trying to obtain them automatically.
