Can dead pixels on an LCD spread?

Hi, i've just noticed a couple burnt out pixels on my Samsung 225BW, they arent very noticeable, but I was curious, will pixels adjacent to burnt out ones be more likely to fail in the future? Or is it something that will likely stay as it is? (I'm used to CRTS)

nope, stuck pixels are not contagious. as a BTW, i've had 4 LCD monitors now and have actually seen where a stuck pixel has come to life.

Same here, I saw a stuck pixel come to life (was blue), and then I just rubbed the area gently with a lcd cloth and it went away.

If one transistor in the line has failed, another is more likely to. Some damage occurred at some point. But one pixel is not going to 'burn out' the adjacent one.

Each pixel is a discreet picture element - they are not subject to contagion from one another. However, that is not to say that a pixel can get stuck or die that is concidentally next to one already dead or stuck and thus be adjacent. That is not likely, but not impossible.

Thanks for the info. I am still able to exchange this monitor, do you think it's worth it for just a couple little pixels? I think I will try to rub my screen to see if they will go away, is a paper towel or a cotton shirt safe to use?

kypron7, the question is yours to answer. If it b0thers you, you're the one who has to live with it, also, how many pixels are you talking about? you are aware that most retailers or etailers specify a minimum amount of 'dead' pixels before they will exchange/return a LCD, i believe most require 8 bad pixels for exchange. YMMV

..I used just my finger(clean)..but the screens do scratch easy. I have a Sceptre 19" lcd I accidently put swirls into using a paper towel instead of a soft lint free cloth. The swirls are only obvious when the monitor is off but it was a disapontment to see them none the less.

That's gotta stink. Wonder how pixel mortality is nowadays. I managed to use briefly about 2000 LCD monitors over the summer, and only recall 1 or 2 of them having dead pixels (dead center). Guess one could get use to it, but personally, I would start planning some sort of rampage...

This is funny I saw this thread.. I just had a stuck pixel yesterday, monitor is about 8 months old, but it was stuck on red, a little below the middle of the screen in the center... rather annoying... I just 'massaged' it with my finger and it went away after a few tries...

it's funny cause my other lcd is over a year old and I've never had problems with it , both are Samsung Syncmasters, different models/refresh rates....

and yeah, before someone says it: I massaged my pixel!😱
