If I set my monitor to a higher refresh rate than it is build to (and it works), could it damage the DAC or any other part ot the graphics card?

I would not not push your monitor to run at refresh rate higher than it's max specification. It will shorten your monitor life.

Anyway which one that you push higher than standard spec ? the monitor or the card ?
each component has its own max spec.

My monitor is maxing out at 120Hz @ 640*480. That's why I don't mind shortning it's life.
My video card is a V8200 Deluxe. It tops at 160Hz, doesn't it?

I push my monitor 20Hz beyond its specs to 140Hz. My question is if it can damage somehow the DAC or some other component of the video card. the reason i'm asking that is because I started getting weird artifects in several games, and also in 3dmark2001. I'm also getting much lower scores than I used to (4000 vs 5610 @ 1024*768*32). From some reason quake3 and mdk2 run just fine. It's not heating problem (core 55c/mem 42c).

It could be my SCSI adapter that I installed a few days ago. I'm checking that also. Do you know if VIA chipsets have any problems with Symbios 8100s scsi adapter (and speficially on kt266)?

Why in the world do you need a higher refresh rate than 120 Hz? geez...put it back down where it is supposed to be.
