I have an NEC 1300A, 4X +/- recorder, firmware 1.0B. I tried to burn something using some double-sided media (not dual layer) a friend gave me, the discs show up as Onidtech 4x -R in DVD Identifier.

Using Nero 5.5.10.54, I began a burn and left the room, knowing it would take ~ 15 min. to complete. When I return, it says 'session fixation error', so the burn failed. I flip the disc over since the other side is blank, and try again. Well 15 min. later, the same thing, same error.

But now, if I insert a DVD blank (either + or -), the disc will spin for like 20-25 seconds, and DVD Identifier and Nero then tell me that the drive is empty, please insert a disc?! However, the drive still recognizes CDs, both blank and recorded/pressed.

Any thoughts? Is it dead? By the way, I have burned a couple of these same Onidtech blanks before, both sides, without any issues.
