can connect to internet, but not network

so back home for thanksgiving and of course i have to fix the network. my sister's laptop can connect wire/lessly to the router's internet, but it can't connect to the network. when i go to "view workgroup computers" nothing shows up. when i type //computername, error. everything is at its default settings. please help. this is annoying me.

2. what type of OS does she have.

ah yes......try \\IP


her DNS is probably set to external servers which obviously can't see your internal NAT'd network.

someone please help. i can't ping any computers on the network. 127.0.0.1 works though. can't see shared files, can't see shared computers.

Gotta be local firewalls or some security setting on the router. Does the problem occur regardless of if you use wired or wireless? Can other machines see eachother? If the answer to both those questions is yes it's not the router.
