can changing fonts cause problems in 98 or ME?

a friend had a ME system working fine. she changed to larger fonts and larger icons (resolution change) and it seemed to work fine. BUT, she loaded some typing software (for a typing class she's taking at a local college) and the system will not boot. sorry, can't recall the exact error message. the ME systems at school are the same pcs and work fine. the ONLY DIFFERENCES are that the school machines have standard keyboards and are running default fonts while her machine has an enhanced keyboard and the enlarged fonts. might the keyboard cause the typing software to choke on setup?? or is it the fonts? the software is College Keyboarding/Cortez Peters Championship Drills frim Glencoe. i contacted them, but they have yet to respond. thanx in adv 😎

I don't know about this specific program, but I have found that large fonts can cause problems because not all programs correct their displays for them, e.g. in Quicken using the tax planner, I couldn't see the entire display at once (even though there was plenty of free space on the screen) and there wasn't even a way for me to scroll over to the parts I couldn't see. So, I grudgingly switched back to the smaller default fonts.

If the fonts are too small for your liking, you might consider a resolution change alone, e.g. instead of 1024 by 768 try 800 by 600. Within individual programs, such as Word, you can also generally adjust how large the fonts appear on the screen. If there is some sort of eyesight problem involved, as opposed to just personal preference, then you might check out the accessibility options that are available in windows.
