At my house i setup a home network. I have a plextor 16x10x40x cdrw drive. Can I make it so other computers on my network can use this drive as their burner.

You can use the machine with the burner to burn things via mapped drives. But the other computers cannot use the cdr locally.

Why would you want to share a cdrw?
That would be like trying to share a scanner.

It seems like it would take more time.

1. You still have to get up and go to the compter that has the cdrw, and put in a blank cd.
2. Go back to whichever computer you came from and start burning.
3. Go back to the computer you burned to.
4. Go back to original computer to use it.

But yes your can share the drive and read off of it. You just can't burn to it as far as I know.

You can share it over the network, and you can burn to it (in a way)...

If you have Packet Writing software like DirectCD or InCD installed and you have a disk that has been formatted for packet writing
in the drive, then you can share it as a writeable device.

I don't like packet writing. If something goes wrong, you have a very good chance you'll lose everything on the CD.

Why not just use it at the computer it is in, and burn the files off the other comps via mapped drives, or even move those files onto your hard drive and burn them from there.

Yes, you can set the source on the map drive, but if you are running 10Mbps (I don't think anybody would by now), you might experience lag. Let's just hope that you have an anti-coaster enhancements on your drive.
