Just burned my first Audio CD ever in my new Plextor using the image method. I used the supplied CD-RW disk in case I stuffed up.

The result works great using my computer CD-ROM player, but does not work on the CD Player on my stereo system. I was just wondering if the problem is because they can not read CD-RW?

Some stereos can't, some can. For instance my sisters Koss can't, however my Sony does just fine. Always trust Sony - works, and works evey time :)

Most can't read CD-RW. Interestingly, some DVD players can.

I've only got an Onkyo stereo system, and it does not work. Pity I can't test it out on other stereo systems right at this moment, as now you've got me wondering if it is my disk or the stereo.

Has anybody ever had success using a CD-RW in an Onkyo stereo?

I'm going to try burning now to a regular CD-R and see if it will work.

Most players will say so if they can read CD-RW discs. Most of the older ones are uncapable of doing so. But a lot of the new ones are. Mostly every cd player will play just regular CD-R discs. I have an old Samsung and it plays CD-R discs so I'm assuming it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Many DVD players can't read CD-R (but some can). However, most CD players can read CD-R. Kinda reverse of DVD.

One of DVD players won't read either CD-RW or CD-R. My other DVD player reads both (but it also reads MP3 so it's a "special" one. ;))

Note that some media works better than others. If you have multiple players, buy one disc of a type first and try it on all your players. If one doesn't work then try a new disc type.

I prefer Mitsui CD-R, with the light blue/teal media. Don't bother with CD-RW.

CD's are read by bouncing a laser off the disk and reading the reflection. Less reflective disk need a more powerful laser to account for the loss, CD/RW disk are the least reflective due to the re-write able nature of the disk. Most players built in the last year or so use the more powerful laser except maybe some economy units.
With CD/R media going for $.75 per disk, you should really keep the CD/RW where it belongs - computer data backup and storage - M.
