A quick Google shows that California was the recipient of large amounts of money from out of state the last few years.
For instance the Mormon Church spent a fortune defeating the gay marriage proposition. Now money is flowing in to defeat the marijuana proposition and to overturn the California environmental laws(thanks Texas oil companies)

So, I propose California keep putting propositions on the ballot. And the money will keep flowing in.

For instance:

Prop. 69 Hookers and Blow. A proposition to keep secret the names of anyone caught with Hookers and Blow. Money will flow in from the Mormon Church and other fundamentalist Christian sects to defeat it. And in support there would be Charlie Sheen.

Prop. 99. Salami Hiders. A proposition to keep secret the names of anyone caught with a "wide stance" or nekkid pictures of choirboys. The Catholic Church and certain fundamentalist preachers would be in support. The National Enquirer and TMZ against.

Prop.100 Decimation. A proposition to convert California to the decimal system. Well, just about everyone would send money to defeat this.

Prop Warp Speed. A proposition to investigate all instances of extraterrestials in California. Money would flow in from conspiracy theorists. And from Republicans who would think it meant an investigation of Governor Moonbeam.

I was thinking more along lines of stimulating the economy.

But its too bad California can't just do away with the vote and let whichever side gives more money win. Then the money could go straight to the budget, without the pesky middlemen.

Kahleeforneeya's proposition system is one of the big problems with the state budget as it is.

Too many "Oooh, this sounds like a good law" type of things get passed by the voters without any source of revenue to actually pay for them.

Then, there are propositions that get passed...and challenged as unconstitutional, leading to court battles that cost the state and feds money to fight.

Or simply remove the super majority requirement for budgets and enjoy a swift financial meltdown instead of a long drawn out one. Short term suffering is nothing compared to long term.

The road to recovery begins at the bottom.

Honestly I think this is your first post that hasn't made me shake my head and mutter "Idiot" under my breath, but this is both clever and funny. Congrats.

Probably also a better plan than California will get from Whitman or Brown, sadly.

isn't it that California tends to proposition itself towards insolvency?

But his point is that California COULD proposition its way to fiscal solvency. There's no reason that a ballot initiative has to have negative tax or spending implications on government, as long as it is controversial it will bring in millions. Hell, if carefully selected, ballot initiatives could bring in millions of foreign lobbyist money, helping to reverse our huge trade imbalance. California is a high tax state; advertising is a high income activity, so that money would flow into government coffers even as it drives employment.

Honestly, Techs, that's bloody brilliant. I am in awe.

I can't believe no one is commenting on this. This is the cleverest, funniest post in awhile. C'mon guys, even if you're diametrically opposed to Techs (as am I), give the guy credit.

Hell, if John Stewart was this good I'd watch him.
