Can BURN, but can't READ

My Plextor sucessfully burns CDs, but cannot verify or read them in regular CD-ROM. It gives me an "I/O device error", but I can read any other CDs. Also, I had been burning CDs fine (readable) until now. I tried rebooting, but still can't read the burn CDs I just make. Is it possible that there's a corrupted driver, but that doesn't make sense, since I can burn.

Make sure that you are closing the session (not neccessarily the disk) and you might try with a different media or a slower burn speed. Some older CDROMs can't read CD-r and -rw media (typically pre-8x for CD-r, pre-24x for -rw)

I closed the session and burn it with the same CDs I've always been burning with the exact same settings, but just that now, all of a sudden, it doens't work. Very strange...

Crappy media perhaps??? Can you read in the CDRW that wrote it or is the Writer just churning out garbage???

For a second opinion burn audio and try in a stereo system...

Sometimes my computer will have a 'hell week' where part of it or the whole machine acts really quirky. I don't know why. ^_^

Totally understand your situation, cuz I have the same thing, too. Sometimes the computer acts sooooooooooooo weird, no technical sane person can explain it. For example, I power up my system in 9 out of 10 chances.

Odd situation you had ... but i hate it when i fix a problem ... and not know how the heck it got fixed!

My plextor, on the other hand, burns cds pretty smoothly ... but before reading the cd i have to close the burning program and wait a few minutes, insert the cd and pray it works... usually accessing the cd straight after a burn doens't work .. i thought i had coasters before and tried reading them ... they actually worked... i think my plextor is still on crack though..

Good to hear your plextor works fine now

Yeah, my Plextor can't read the CDs it burns, but it can be read perfectly fine from any other CD-ROM drive. Or maybe the Plextor can read it, too, but only after reinserting it back in.

I have a similar problem with my car CD player. I found i could put a CD in and it would work fine for about 15 mins and then start jumping or scratching whatever. Problem was not isolate to the track all of which played fine at different times.

Then I realised what the problem was (on a very hot day). The audio was recorded on a poor wuality CD. The heat (when the stereo warmed up or on hot days) caused the readable surface to expand and was not being read properly anymore.. Worked better in the house becuase that CD player runs cooler and has better laser pickup...

Just thought it might be related becuase i'd never heard of this prob before...

all best good buddys
