Are 4mm or 8mm Data Cartridge (Data tape of computer) is same as MINI-DV or HI8 cassete of video?
Look wise it looks identical. Anybody tried it?

If answer is YES than there is chance of saving big bucks on MINI-DV or HI8 tape.

I tried putting a DVD into my CD player and it DOESN'T work, even though look so much the same! And I tried and tried but the CD player wouldn't play Playstation CD's either .

AFAIK you would have to modify the cassette. Other than that, the tape itself is the same.

I have used many old 8mm data storage tapes in my HI8 video camera, and I am glad to report that they work great! I would assume that the 4mm tapes would work just fine in the DV cameras... this is a great deal, especially when your cousin works for a company that uses these backup tapes a couples times and then gets rid of them... :)

LOL. OK, I have some 8-track tapes...maybe I'll stick those in my camcorder. :Q

Seems this question was already asked and answered in the camcorder thread. Not a deal.
