fish usually come with a warranty. They are cheap and almost considered expendable.

Yeah, dogs and fish are hardly the same. If you kill a dog, you could get charged with animal cruelty. If you kill a fish, I highly doubt any police would care. And you can go fishing, but you sure don't go dog hunting. 😉

But it begs the question, where do you draw the line? It's ok to kill some bugs or a fish, but a squirrel? A cat? A dog? A human? WHERE IS THE LINE!?

Exactly. So I wonder where the instinctual human line lies. Obviously humans (untainted by society) don't mind killing dogs or most other animals, but would a caveman hunt a monkey? I wonder where that instinctual line is, and why it is where it is.

2 betas in same tank could be your problem... but yes a bass can eat a small fish such as a beta.. or maybe it was even that the betas both got mad at each other.. fought to the death because one was a nialist and then the bass ate the loser...
