Can bad RAM kill a system?

I added 1GB of RAM to my mother's laptop and suddenly she noticed it shutting off randomly then one day she couldn't get it to start again. I pulled the stick and sent it in under warranty and they replaced the power/USB card and motherboard. Now a few months later it died again and won't come back up. She didn't notice any notification balloons popping up in the systray but the adapter is putting out 19v. This unit is plugged in24-7.

Should I send it in with the extra RAM included?

The situation sounds like bad luck or need to try a surge protector.
