I want to be able to have different instruments in my band recorded simultaneously, with realtime effects applied to some, etc. first of all, does audigy support recording from more than one input at once, and
how many inputs can be used simultaneously on audigy platinum

also: if not, what's a good card for this use?

No, just the two inputs as either a stereo track or 2 mono tracks. How many tracks do you want to do at once??
I'd say the best bang for the buck right now is the M-Audio Delta 1010 LT. 8-in and 10-out, with 2 Mic Pre's built in. Of course you're going to need Mic Pre's/ and possibly a console to submix if it's a live recording. Feel free to pm or E-Mail me for any help you may need. I've got the Delta66 w/Omni I/O at home. It gets me 6 (4 analog and 2 digital ins) in and 6 out, and does most of what I need it to do. The only drawback is the lack of more than 6 ins, 2 more would be perfect for tracking Drums straight to the thing, but instead I've got to submix my Overheads, room mic's and Hi-Hat Mic's.
I've been building DAW's for people since my first Pro-Tools TDM Rig back in '92, and would be glad to point you in the right directions.
