You are absolutely incorrect.

no, i am PARTIALLY incorrect because i didn't make a distinction that i should've.

i was thinking of signs fully contained within lots. i was not talking about driving towards the lot exit and blindly pulling out onto the street. also things like shopping complexes may have actual public roads running within them.

but that little fake-ass stop sign by the crosswalk, or at the end of a lot row? no, cops can't enforce those.

I have spoken to police about these issues.

They cannot hand out a ticket to someone that runs a stop sign in a parking lot. I am not talking about signs where you leave the lot, but internal intersections. They tell anyone who has been in a collision because of this to fight it out in court and with the insurance companies. Unless a criminal offense has occurred (impaired driving, etc) the police can't do much.

How exactly do you envision the police enforcing traffic laws on private property? Or better yet, how's the security guard going to detain you while they arrive??

Im sure that if the owners of the property/mall can ask a cop to ticket people they can on private property. That is what I was told years ago but, not so sure. Guess I will ask my brother now since he is a cop.

Sometimes it's just riffing off a thought you started ;^)

As to your first question, I've already discussed it at length. You should read the thread before asking dumb questions.

Second, who said anything about detainment?

It's up to the property owner whether to allow local law enforcement to enforce traffic signs on clearly marked private roads (like many large parking lots), among other things. Most do.

Then again, who the hell knows what all kinds of things are ass backwards in Canada ;); but this is how it is here.

They could have you towed after you've been there more than 5 minutes.

yes that is what they tried to do a couple weeks ago. i came out and there was a filipino in a golf cart putting a tow sticker on my car. he said "i just called the tow company, now i have to call them back and cancel", as if i was supposed to say "ok sorry dude, why dont i just let you go ahead and tow my car since youve gone to so much trouble". it took a fricken 20 minutes to get the damn sticker off and it left a mess on my window, i felt like suing them

does anyone know how you get sticky stuff off glass? i tried a razor scraper but it just smudged it and gummed up the razor
