Can applecare be purchased at anywhere in the world?

I've asked a friend to buy me a MBA 13inch in Hongkong(I live in India). Can I buy an applecare plan later in the US and use it with my new MBA? or is it better idea to ask my friend to buy it in HK? There is a price difference of about $40 so wondering if I can save my buying the care package in the USA.

You typically need to buy it in country of residence. There's a disclaimer in the agreement that discusses this; read it carefully. I speak of the USA AppleCare agreement; check yours in the area in which you buy.

If you live in India, I'd buy the AppleCare in India.
