can apature size affect stability and performance?

ive jus set my apature size for my 6800gt from 256 to 128

and now i can run a full test of 3dmark o3 and o1 without it crashing to desktop, before these would crash with my cards memory clocked anything over 1.0Ghz

now ive been able to run the tests completely and not only have i scored higher ive been able to bench my card at 410/1.11ghz no problems

so does apautre size have these effects or is it jus coinsidence?

PPL have different opinions about AGP aperture size and settings. It's still a blurry and controversial issue.
If you have 1Gb of ram you can set it to 256 in bios. But what I know is that this memory isn't dedicated 100% to gpu . It's not like you will have 768mb of system ram left if you set it to 256 in bios. This ram is ONLY USED in case it's needed and only then. At every other occasion works as system ram.
So my guess is that it's just a coincidence. I can't see any relevance between 3dm2k3 hang and your agp set @256.

Specs please, specifically ram.

hehe all u gotta do is click that "Otispunkmeyer Special" in my sig.....if its workin probs screwed it up, i have a gig of geil pc3200

either way im happy with it at 128, dont play doom at ultra settings anyway so im not likely to be needing it, jus wierd how i suddenly score more, and was able to run higher O/c's

thanks guys!!

Usually the rule of thumb is to set it to half of your gfx cards memory, so if you had a 9800pro 128mb set apeture to 64
