Can anyone using a Mac help me?

Turkish

Lifer
I'm designing a website and trying to make it as much cross-browser compatible as I can so I'm using CSS rather than tables. I checked on a Windows machine (using both IE and Firefox, and it looks fine) but can anyone using a Mac tell me if the columns & rows align well? Both on IE, Firefox and Safari. Thanks.

All I see is a banner :/

And wouldn't it look identical on a PC as on a Mac if using the same browser?

all you see is a banner? what do you mean? can you post a screenshot? 🙂 There's no content on the site right now, I just wanna make sure the layout is right.

sm8000: site works for me 😕

In safari I see:

Logo
menu
moveba'ya hosgeldiniz.

Basically in that orientation, all justified on the left of the page.

Likewise, except the logo is off a bit. I'm using OSX Panther.

I guess I'm aproaching this the wrong way. Here's a screenshot in Windows with Firefox: http://www.moveba.com/screenshot.gif

Does it look similar or no?

What I see in Safari (running 10.3.7) looks nothing like that. It's a white screen that says
Moveba (logo)
Menu
Moveba'ya hosgeldiniz.

Basically, it shows no formating at all.

Boss, I have found that the only real way to make a website compatible with all browsers is to create a templating system that chooses a template to display depending on the browser viewing the page. Hopefully there will be a standard that browsers operate on in the future, but no such luck yet.

I like Smarty Template Engine, that is if you are using PHP. http://smarty.php.net/

What the hell... I'm using simple CSS.... hmmm that's really weird. Can anyone with Firefox or IE confirm whether it looks like mine or malak's screenshot? LoL.

Weird. I guess I'll have to see if it's a Mac thing...

I'm not sure if I really want to go that far with it... If it looks fine on Firefox & IE on both Mac and Windows, I'll be happy 🙂

Have you tried running the site against a HTML/CSS validator?

Let me try. I'm guessing it's something with Mac browsers cause apparently it works fine with Windows users. Thanks for the tip though!

It's more likely that it's a IE quirk that developers have worked with for years, but isn't valid HTML. Firefox does compensate for some of these quirks(hence "Quirks mode" rendering) which is why it looks to work where Safari and Opera don't.

Here is the CSS:

body {
color:#333;
background-color:white;
font:11px verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
}

h1 {
font:bold 12px/14px verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
text-decoration: underline;
margin:0px 0px 5px 0px;
padding:0px;
}

h2 {
font:bold 12px/14px verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
margin:0px 0px 5px 0px;
padding:0px;
}

#banner {
position:absolute;
top:5px;
left:5px;
background-color:#CCCC99;
height:62px;
width:800px;
padding:5px;
border:1px dashed black;
voice-family: "\"}\"";
voice-family: inherit;
height:60px;
width:798px;
body>#banner {height:60px; width:798px;}
}

#left {
position:absolute;
top:82px;
left:5px;
background-color:#CCCC99;
height:400px;
width:150px;
padding:5px;
border:1px dashed black;
voice-family: "\"}\"";
voice-family:inherit;
height:398px;
width:148px;
body>#left {height:398px; width:148px;}
}

#right {
position:absolute;
top:82px;
left:170px;
background-color:#CCCC99;
height:400px;
width:635px;
padding:5px;
border:1px dashed black;
voice-family: "\"}\"";
voice-family:inherit;
height:398px;
width:633px;
body>#left {height:398px; width:633px;}
}

See where it says voice-family: "\"}\""; ? That's a fix for IE 5.0 and body>#left {height , width} is the fix for Opera. Weird... I'll look into it but thanks Virge, the CSS validated except that fix for Opera.

The only web templating system that I've gotten to work cross-platform is *TABLES*

I've grown used to it. Fvck you and your CSS layouts. Nothing breaks tables anymore.

Heh... tables are slow and they suck 😛
