I can tell. My parents only buy Decaff. It tastes slightly less "full" compared to the normal stuff.

My family is in the wholesale beverage business and one of the warehouse workers bet I couldn't taste the difference between Coke, Diet Coke, Caffeine Free Coke, and Ceffeine Free Diet Coke. I one upped him and won the bet by SMELLING the difference on 25 samples. They tried to fool me a few times by tossing in generic cola and Pepsi.

Caffeine lends more of a bite to the soda. I usually just mainline coffee though, skip the sugar ;)

I do not find this a subtle difference at all. The caffeine seems to impart a slight bitterness that I like - I really dislike decaf coffee or soda.

Caffeine free pop is worthless IMO, basically the only reason I drink pop is for the caffeine, if I want something that tastes good I drink juice.

Yeah caffeine free just lacks something... Soda is to keep me awake, water is my drink of choice :)

I can tell because of the headaches and after-taste. I guess I'm addicted.
