Can anyone suggest some mid-range video cards?

My friend is in the market for a new video card, in the mid-price range ($100-150). He currently has a POS AGP 4MB card and a STB Blackmagic 3D accel (12MB). Any suggestions would be appreciated. 🙂

V3, MX, or 32mb Radeon. I personally like V3's, I can't believe how cheap they are now.

radeon ddr 32 megger... ranges anywhere between $98~$170 depending on how you get it. most people get it for $150 after $50 rebate or $160-$30 plus shipping/tax at buy.

Radeon DDR 32MB can be had for $150 or less after rebate. For high-res gaming and DVD playback in Win98, this handily beats the GF2 MX. However, for lower rez and Win2K gaming the MX is better, especially for Quake 3.

Thanks for the replies! He's leaning heavily towards the MX because it's lower priced and he's not a seriously heavy gamer, but he does play games a bit, so the extra performance of the DDR isn't too important to him.

A Voodoo3 if you want dead cheap.

A GF2MX is the best bang for the buck, but more expensive than the V3.

I love my V3, nice 2D image quality, 55-60FPS in quake3 in HQ settings (ok it's 16bit with a 22bit post filter, not 32bit, but the rest of the settings are HQ). Gives me an 800x600x32x85Hz desktop with good 2D, and I've never had any driver issues or game compatiblity problems with it.
