Can anyone suggest some good technically minded Anime?

Anime really isn't my favorite, but I did see some that were alright. I was sick in bed once and Cartoon Network was on and they were playing this one Anime that had some pretty good technical shit in it. I was like wow that guy knows his shit. So I'm looking for Sci-Fi and technical minded stuff. Like dealing with computers, plasma technologies, nuclear power, time travel, real nerdy stuff. Can anything fit this bill?

For time travel, I would go with Steins;Gate. Be warned that it starts out pretty slow, but when it gets going, it's really awesome. The resolution to the story is great and logically consistent within the framework of the show.

Its median user rating on Anime News Network is "Masterpiece" (the highest rating)

Most anime bullshits worse than star trek.

This is hilarious, I highly recommend it.

If you only want sci fi then lower your expectations, I don't think there is much hard sci fi anime.

Maybe TO, Ghost in the Shell, Armitage, or one of the giant stompy mech anime would do you.

I really like the "Magnetic Rose" short from the triple feature "Katsuhiro Otomo's: Memories"

It wasn't about the technical details but they really set the atmosphere with it. There are all the little details from tiny pulses of retro rockets firing to move their equipment correctly in space, and obviously well-thought-out legal circumstances for "Maritime in space" laws (responding to S.O.S., salvage rights, video documentation of entrance, etc). On top of that, the animation is simply amazing.

Meow Kittae. It's about an impecunious, fetching, but naïve and suspiciously round eyed female geek who faces the challenge of her life when the caps on her motherboard blow, and Soldermansan3000, the morbidly obese and socially inept but technically handy young basement dweller and serial self-abuser who sweeps her off her feet with his blinding expertise with a solder iron and near encyclopedic knowledge of every single Doctor Who episode ever.

Different than most in that this Anime is dubbed rather than subtitled, it features the melodious and mesmerizing voices of Bobcat Goldthwait and Joan Rivers. Insiders tout it as a near shoo-in for the Palme d'Hairee award at the next Cans Film Festival and it has garnered the first ever 100 plus rating on Lotten Tomatoes.

The other 2 shorts also qualify.

I really loved "Stink Bomb."

1. Memories
2. Cowboy Bebop
3. Ghost in the Shell

DO NOT watch GitS "2.0" -- They replaced some of the most impressive traditional animation ever made with shitty mediocre CGI and the original version is not included.

Definitely Ghost in the Shell and the excellent Stand Alone Complex series. If you like Deus Ex you'll probably love GitS.
Also Planetes is also good on the hard, gritty sci-fi. It's about space trash men, and trust me it's better then it sounds.

This is as true as anything has ever been. What a tremendous piece of fermented whale shit. I didn't make it ten minutes.

Dennou Coil.

Really intricate blend of a world with common virtual technology and children's fantasies. Never seen anything like it before and doubt will again.

I am seconding steins;gate. It's got technical and nerdy references to make you lol here and there. While also being sci-fi, time-travel, suspenseful thriller.... it really is fantastic.

Definitely Cowboy Bebop, the episode where they go to earth is particularly cool. I thought there were some cool things in Trigun, but it has some hard parts to watch too, such as when Vash gets overly-expressive.

Some random selections:

Planetes - the short description is "garbage collectors in space", but it's much more interesting than that. They gather up the bits of abandoned satellites, debris knocked off of space stations, etc. before they can collide with and take out a shuttle or active satellite.

Noein - interesting time travel, alternate reality, quantum uncertainty hand-wavy SF story

RahXephon - interesting giant robot series mixing science and mysticism

Ghost in the Shell movie - SF classic, one of the main inspirations of The Matrix along with MegaZone 23. The Stand Alone Complex tv series is good too.

Bodacious Space Pirates - despite the silly title it's an interesting SF series that could have been a young adult novel from Heinlein or Niven.

 for this. It is one of the few anime I came upon that gave some good minded information about what it would be like in space and dealing with the expansion to that environment. Lets just say that you do not want to mess with space.

:hmm:

That's almost exactly Magnetic Rose from "Katsuhiro Otomo's: Memories."
