Yes, a few companies make 1.8" SATA SSDs. I don't know about PATA drives. Intel and Kingston are two such companies. Intel model is X18-M or something like that. Don't remember about Kingston. A few companies rebadged the Intel drive too. The Intel drive would be a solid choice.

The 1.8" versions can be a bit more than the 2.5" flavor, but there are Sandforce drives (e.g. Vertex 2), Intel as Zap mentioned as well as the Crucial Real SSD ones. All of those are decent.

Look around and you'll find them; they aren't as numerous as the 2.5" varieties but they are out there.

x18-m rocks. remember they are 3.3V only! iirc intel release a few new versions in jan
