can anyone recommend an external USB sound device?

I've been running the Philips Aurilium for the past couple of years.. I really like the convenience of mounting an external box on the opposite side of my desk near my headphones.

however, it's not playing well with Vista 64 bit. I get sound watching vids in VLC, but for some reason, when I'm watching live TV, I don't get any wound & windows gives me an error.
