Can anyone recommend an AM/FM antenna for home audio?

Sorry if it's tad off topic, I'm really stumped on this one.

Well, if you are having the same problem as me, I sure wish someone could find a workable solution.

I have a local radio station with a low wattage/weak signal that plays old time rock 'n roll and even though I can receive the station on my vehicle radios fine, if I am at home or work inside of a building, I can not get the signal at all or it is very fuzzy.

I have been looking for a six months now for some type of audio antenna which would pick up this signal without having to drill a hole thru both levels of my apartment and placing some type of antenna in the attic or on the roof.

So far every antenna type that I have tried has not improved signal strength and in some cases they even made it worse than the little 10 cent 75 ohm wire plug-in antenna that came with my Sony micro stereo.

Maybe we will have an audio expert happen by the forum !!!

Good luck.

Use an outdoor FM antenna and feed the signal to the radio with 75 ohm co-axial cable. If the FM source is weak or overlapped by a strong station, then you may need a better radio. AM signal can travel several thousand miles, depending on the original signal level and atmospheric condition.

You could mount a small outdoor FM antenna on the ceiling and aim it for optimal signal strength. Unfortunately, if the building in encased with steel support, then you may need to move it outdoor.

Hi, In a pinch a TV antenna is better than nothing. The FM bands are about the lower middle of the TV bands. Just get a small VHF/UHF antenna. Jim

Terk is probably the most well-known brand of AM-FM antennas for home audio. Available from many places including J&R Music and Computer World (www.jr.com) and possibly Best Buy and Circuit City. You can also check sites like Universal Radio and C.Crane. Most outdoor TV antennas will pick up FM as well (the FM band exists between TV channels 5 and 6) which you can split to your audio receiver. AM is more difficult as very little attention has been given to it for a long time but a couple of the sources mentioned above have some units. Metal frame buildings make life miserable for the radio listener.

I bought this one.

I could not pick up a single station so I picked up the one from Terk. It helped a little but it didn't exactly pull down the sky. I get about 6 stations now instead of nothing at all.
