Can anyone recommend a set of headphones for working out?

I finally got my iPod mini and am in need of a good pair of headphones for working out. Any recommendations? Primary concern is comfort while working out. Second is sound quality.

Thanks in advance.

Comfort, sound quality.

OK, these are pricey, but they are what I use: Etymotic ER-4S ($226.00 shipped)

They fit right in your ear, and are therefore very comfortable while working out. No headset iritating your head, none of the discomfort you get while you are generating a sweat with muffs over your ears.

The sound is exceptional. They are really good at blocking out external sounds. Hifi enthusiasts love to use them on planes and subways. They block out all the sounds that are intrusive at the gym: piped in music, noisey equipment, people jabbering.

Some say they aren't efficient enough, but I've always found them to be amply efficient with the devices I've used them with: a Sony portable cassette/FM player and a SlimX IMP-350 player (CDs, CDRs, CDRWs with MP3's, plus FM). There's a more efficient (and I think cheaper) version, but I do fine with the ER-4S, so I didn't bother with them.

I donated all my portable headphones after getting into the Etymotics.

the new er6i are getting very favorable reviews, could be had for like ~$140 new.
for cheaper alternatives, consider
1)mx-400/500 + $2 ratshack foamies (optional) : personally, i didnt like them too much. i guess my expectations were too high after hearing nothing but good things about them. then again i am yet to try the foamies, and convering earlobes with hands make them sound much nicer, suggesting me the foamies might do the trick.
2)koss the plugs : they sound horrid without mods, but after doing mods as shown at headwize, these are my absolute favorites for outside use (note : i havnt tried any higher order in-canal phones like etys and shures). highs lack sparkle and maybe a tad bit muddy plus some middbass hump, but very forgiving. very warm, balanced and laidback, unbelievable for $10 i paid for them :D another upside is they block out most of outside noise (not completely as advertised, but defnitely good enough for most part) and extemrely efficient which translates to improved longevity of the batteries in the DAP of your choice.
3)koss porta pros : IIRC, they are out of production (correct me if i am wrong) but you could always find used pairs and they retail for only $50. ugly and somewhat bass heavy but very nice for price.

this is an old post that i'm bumping, but it looks like the Koss plug can do exactly what those Etymotics can do for only $9.99.
