single-> half-life

mult-> unreal tournament, quake III, counter-strike

Try Urban Terror its a mod for Quake 3 you can find it at urbanterror.net it rocks you will love it after you learn the maps also there are no cheaters like in counter strike..

If you don't cheat....Max Payne is pretty intense but frustrating as hell.

Gotta get it just for hte Grx though

I would call Max pretty laid back, not intense.

Try Serious Sam and XCom Enforcer for heavy shooting. Giant's is a good game all around and has some hectic moments as it progresses.

Try operation flashpoint, nothing like trying to take over a town when you know there are guys out there shotting even though you can't see them.

If you want intense then I would go with Operation Flash point. It's not nonstop action but it is very intese game play. Especially in single player campagn mode.
