Can anyone recommend a good slide scanner?

I'm looking to get a dedicated, or otherwise, slide scanner (35mm). Right now, I think the Nikon LS-2000 is the best way to go, but I would like to know if there are any better-priced alternatives...

I'd appreciate any input...

A dedicated slide scanner is $$$$ - I had one (Olympus ES-10 - SCSI) but when I switched to XP, it had to go. So, I replaced by flatbed with a new Epson 2450 Photo scanner, and it does a better job than the ES-10 did. It has slide and negative carriers that fit in the scanner lid. It is the only device of its type I know of today that is USB 2 or Firewire. Take your pick.

Have you experienced any problems or inconveniences using the 2450? Do the scans come out nice?
