Can anyone recommend a good Gaming only 30" monitor?

I currently use 2x23" monitors. I game on one in windowed full screen mode and use the other to surf the web.

My GTX 670 will be here today and thinking about going to a bigger monitor if the price is not to bad. I have no interest in 3D gaming on my PC.

I won't be able to get 2 of them at once, so with the the 30" can i use that windowed fullscreen with one of my 24" as a 2nd for browsing the web or do they need to be the same size to work well?

I had a guy local trying to sell me a Acer HN274H for $400, but again not really wanting 3D i assume i can get a better 27 or 30" for gaming?

Thanks for the help.

What's your budget? Some may laugh but I just used some gift cards and snagged a27.5" 1920x1200 Hanns G HZ218 from neweg for $239 (they were running a special). HUGE monitor when coming from even a 24". Obviously the 120mhz 27" monitors are in the $700-800 range but for me this is a real nice monitor. Runs games well.

I guess even a 27" would be a nice increase. Is that Acer any good i listed? Might be able to get him down to 300ish if decent.

What game reso do most 27" use and is 120hz a must have when you step up?

Thanks

You can use the new one with the old, but I think you can also use all 3 of them at the same time with a 670 - I highly recommend if you have the desk space for it. At least try it before making up your mind, it's very nice if you do something that uses multiple different windows/applications at the same time.

Ah i did not think about that.

That Dell looks pretty sweet. Is $1200 pretty much the price point to get into a decent 30"?

How is gaming at that reso? I mostly play MMO's.

How is HP 2711x? I am talking to a guy locally about buying a used one. He is at 230, i am trying to get it for $210, its $324 on Amazon atm. Anyone have any feedback on how this is for gaming? For that price seems like a nice upgrade from my current Dell 23" non led monitor.

I personally think is better to make bigger jump from 23" to 30".

going from 23 to 27 is small change.

I agree but it looks like to get to a 30" its around $1200 at least.

I figure i can get this 27" for $210 then eventually get the 30" and use the 27" for my web surfing monitor on the side.

HP ZR30W has less input lag, which could make a difference. I am happy with mine.

You need to figure out what resolution you want. The 30" screens run 2560x1600. In 27" you can go 2560x1440 or 1920x1080. There are no hi-res (2560x) monitors that do 120hz. Unless you are heavily into FPS or 3D you probably don't need 120hz anyway.

IMHO a 1920x1080 27" inch doesn't make a lot of sense, you have the same resolution you could get in a 22"-24" panel, just with bigger pixels. Bigger isn't necessarily better on a desktop monitor, unless you are using it for double duty watching movies or something. Likewise, I don't think a 30" is particularly worth it over a 27" 2560x. You get a bit more vertical resolution, but you aren't using that in most games anyway since they are optimized for a 16:9 aspect ratio.

There are a handful of vendors on eBay selling 27" 2560x1440 monitors from Korea for ~$300 if you don't mind a glossy screen - lots of threads on various forums, here's one to start.

Thanks, i just seen those. I think i might go that route trying to decipher all the info in the thread here and on OC to figure out which one to get. Confusing so far, but looks like a great monitor.

Ended up going with QH270-Lite ShiMian 27" 2560x1440 with perfect pixel guarantee for $363 shipped. Said it should be here between the 15th and 19th of this month. Here is to hoping for closing to the 15th for Diablo 3!

If it turns out good will probably eventually get another to run duals with.

I wouldn't go larger then 24" with 1080p. If your going to get a big monitor go for 1440p or 1600p. Pixels get really spread out and the monitor ends up not looking very good when you are sitting close to it.

Yep... I've been gaming on a 27' i-Inc with 1920x1200... it runs perfect with my current GTX 570... time to go for 2560x1440 or higher, otherwise my incoming GTX 670 will be a waste if I don't... my search continues...:ninja:

I use a 26" KDS LCD, probably TN, at 1920x1200. Pixels don't really stick out for me at that res. The monitor is probably 2' away from my face.

Diablo 3 in 1440p, it and Tera look amazing. Shipped from Korea to metro Detroit in one day, astounding. That's a 23" acer next to it.
