Can anyone recommend a good credit union?

I am a college student and somewhat tired of using Bank of America. I am looking for a new bank but it seems all the major players offer the same thing with the added hassle of having to switch everything over. I would like to find a bank/credit union that can offer free checking, savings account options, loans, etc. I am in the SF East Bay Area and would appreciate any help anyone can offer.
